Will anything heat the stones? No, the things not to use are, crock pot, microwave, on top of the stove or in the oven. What will heat your stones is a roaster either a 6 qt to a 18 qt roaster works well. Do know that the 18 qt roaster takes a very long time to heat your stones to the correct temperature. A fry Daddy, an Electric Skillet also will work. What ever you use it needs to have a temperature control dial on the outside of the unit, (not low-medium-high).

What kind of stones will work? We use a Basalt stone, they come in gray, reddish purple and black, they have a high content of lead in them so they retain the heat for longer periods. They are also almost impossible to break.
